One was male ("George"), and one was female ("Liz"). Bob went to Liz for advice first, and she suggested a solution to Bob. About four days later, Bob presented the same problem to George, who suggested the same solution that Liz had proposed four days earlier.

Itís often possible to save a mentoring partnership thatís on the rocks, but itís not always obvious to a program administrator that a mentoring partnership is in trouble until itís too late. Any time that the partnership can be saved, however, it always comes back to one thing: communication.

Mentoring is a very human development method - and thatís definitely part of the beauty of it. One of the reasons mentoring tends to work as well as it does within organizations is precisely because itís individual-to-individual, and facilitates conversations and connections between employees. These conversations and connections mean a few really great things for the organization, among them stronger bonds between and across teams, a greater wealth of shared knowledge, and more developed people overall. However, the flipside to the "humanness" of using mentoring as a developmental method is the subjectivity that comes along with it.
